ACTUATORS
The actuator modules are designed to interface with other EMB modules via components mounted to the shaft. Examples of components are gears, pulleys, sprockets, shaft couplers, and shaft collar hubs.
Quick guide to choosing an actuator:
- EMB-AM4: brushed motor. This is our standard recommendation for our EMB kits, it is our workhorse.
- EMB-AM2: brushless motor. If you need even further performance than the EMB-AM4, this brushless motor is the ultimate choice.
Since it has no brushes, it offers longer life than the EMB-AM4.
To get the most out of this motor, we strongly recommend pairing it with the ESCON2 amplifier with sinusoidal commutation (FOC).
- EMB-AM1: if you are looking for a stepper motor.
- EMB-AM3: brushed motor, specialized for unique experiments involving multiple brushed motors. Not recommended for most uses.
- EMB-AM5: brake. Only used in "dynamometer" applications.
The EMB-AM1 is a stepper motor, recommended for applications where motor cogging is acceptable.
Note, this motor has a 5.00mm diameter shaft.

The EMB-AM2 is powered by a Swiss made premium quality, high efficiency and low inductance brushless motor with hall sensors and optical incremental encoder (500 CPT). It provides high dynamics, low cogging, high performance and smooth motion.
It has a 6mm shaft, ideal to interface with with other EMB components (6mm is the EMB standard shaft diameter).
Key features:
-
Rated Voltage: 24V
-
Power: 70W
-
Internal Hall Sensors
-
Internal Incremental Encoder for commutation (500 CPT)
-

The EMB-AM3 powered by a German made premium quality, high efficiency and low inductance brushed DC motor. It provides high dynamics, low cogging, high performance and smooth motion.
We can also offer this motor with higher power rating, 60W (instead of 30W).
Note, this motor has a 5.00mm diameter shaft and is relatively short in length.
Key features:
-
Rated Voltage: 24V
-
Power: 30W (option 60W)
-
Shaft diameter: 5.00 mm

EMB-AM3
EMB-AM4
The EMB-AM4 is powered by a Swiss made premium quality, high efficiency and low inductance brushed DC motor. It provides high dynamics, low cogging, high performance and smooth motion.
The motor is custom made for Robots5 from Maxon (Switzerland), to provide a 6mm shaft with flat to make it ideal to interface with with other EMB components (6mm is the EMB standard shaft diameter).
This actuator is our recommendation for most applications.
Key features:
-
Rated Voltage: 24V
-
Power: 70W
-
Direct drive, no internal gearing
-
Shaft diameter: 6.00 mm
-
Connector: screw terminal
