ACTUATORS
The actuator modules are designed to interface with other EMB modules via components mounted to the shaft. Examples of components are gears, pulleys, sprockets, shaft couplers, and shaft collar hubs.
Quick guide to choosing an actuator:
- EMB-AM4 — Brushed DC Motor (Standard Recommendation)
The EMB-AM4 is our standard recommendation for EMB kits and serves as our primary workhorse actuator. It offers an excellent balance of performance, robustness, and ease of use, making it suitable for most applications.
- EMB-AM2 — Brushless DC Motor (Highest Performance Option)
For applications requiring performance beyond the EMB-AM4, the EMB-AM2 is the ultimate choice. Offering higher performance capability, longer service life due to the absence of brushes, and increased efficiency and durability.
To achieve optimal performance, we strongly recommend pairing this motor with the ESCON2 amplifier using sinusoidal commutation (Field-Oriented Control, FOC).
- EMB-AM1 — Stepper Motor
EMB-AM1: if you are looking for a stepper motor. Typically not recommended.
- EMB-AM3 — Brushed DC Motor (Specialized Applications)
The EMB-AM3 is a brushed motor intended for specialized experiments involving multiple brushed motors. It is not recommended for most standard applications.
- EMB-AM5 — Brake Module
The EMB-AM5 is a brake module used exclusively in dynamometer applications.
The EMB-AM1 is a stepper motor, recommended for applications where motor cogging is acceptable.
Note, this motor has a 5.00mm diameter shaft.
